Nutritional Therapy

“Eat food, mostly plants, not too much.” –Michael Pollan

Although TCM practitioners are not trained nutritionists, nutrition and diet play a vital role in Chinese medicine and holistic health, and equally important in the discussion of your health history and in the course of your treatment.

Our society is inundated with mixed messages about diet and nutrition. Doesn’t it get incredibly confusing? Although the extensive research done on food and which food to eat is respectable, it gives the impression that diet should be and inherently is complicated and impossible to navigate without a degree. This could not be further from the truth.  Michael Pollan said it best: “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.” Eat real food that comes from the earth and not from a lab.  If it was not around three hundred years ago, you can bet that it is not real. Splenda was not around back then, but honey was.  Twinkies weren’t either but apples certainly were.  Whether you are trying to cure your headache, have a baby, lose some weight or do just about anything to change the state of your health and body, real, whole food will help you get there.  Obviously there are certain things to add and Spoons and herbssubtract that cater to your needs in general, as we know each body is incredibly different; but for the most part, if you eat real food, your body will know what to do with it. Your body wants to heal and help you achieve your goals. Really, it does. If you provide it with right fuel, it will have the sustenance to go the distance.

If the issue at hand stems primarily from diet or a more Western based approach is needed, we happily refer to one of New York City’s finest and brightest nutritionists, the Food Coach, Dana James. Please see resource page for full details on how to contact Dana James, Certified Nutritionist.
